IgE-Binding Epitopes of Pis v 1, Pis v 2 and Pis v 3, the Pistachio (Pistacia vera) Seed Allergens

Sequential IgE-binding epitopes were identified on the molecular surface of Pis v 1 (2S albumin), 2 (11S globulin/legumin) and 3 (7S globulin/vicilin)—major allergens from pistachio (Pistacia vera) seeds—using Spot technique. They essentially consist hydrophilic electropositively charged residues well exposed allergens. Most epitopic regions do not coincide with putative N-glycosylation sites thus are considered as glycotopes. Surface analysis these indicates a high degree conformational similarity previously corresponding Ana o (vicilin), (legumin) albumin) cashew (Anacardium occidentale) nut. These results offer basis for cross-reactivity often observed between support recommendation prescribing avoidance in allergic patients.
